City of Milan Wastewater Treatment Plant
Type of work: Geotechnical Engineering,
The City of Milan, Missouri’s, wastewater treatment plant included two new sequencing batch reactors, a headworks, clarifiers, sludge handling and an operations building. The project included placement of 10 to 12 feet of compacted fill to raise the plant up out of the floodplain. Exploration indicated the fills would induce several inches of settlement due to consolidation of the underlying compressible alluvial soils. Plans were developed to surcharge the compacted fills with temporary earth fill to accelerate settlement in advance of plant construction. The process included monitoring with settlement plates and allowed plant structures to be supported on economical mat foundations. No deep foundations were required. Allstate Consultants performed the geotechnical investigation and construction testing and monitoring.
